The iPad uses the EPUB format for electronic books. The EPUB format was used by other popular book readers such as Stanza, and Sony Reader. The EPUB format is an open standard format that was invented by the International Digital Publishing Forum. According to the New York Times, Apple’s agreement with publishers will offer provisions to discount book prices on bestselling books. Although the iBookstore is not yet open for business, it seems that the agreements between the publishers and Apple will offer more flexibility in pricing. Apple will also offer some titles at a cheap discounted price.
In addition, Apple has signed deals with five major publishers including Penguin, HarperCollins, Simion & Schuster, Macmillan and Hachette. Apple plans to offer 70% of revenue to publishers. Once users purchase the ebook, they will be able to download to their iPad device. The iBookstore will be the only way where users can purchase the ebooks to use within the iBook application.
Digital rights management is not necessary since the content cannot be copied to another device once It is downloaded from the iBookstore. Apple has implemented the same iPhone technology on iPad so that is a closed and locked device. Other users will not be able to access the underlying file system. The books that are purchased from iBookstore can only be read with the built- in ibook reader app in iPad.
iBookstore is extremely fast, easy and convenient. Users can easily search within iBookstore to find the best buyback price for their books. You will be able to review offers from multiple sources through the easy to compare market. You no longer have to go from bookstore to bookstore to be told no one wants to buy your book.
